Alumni Spotlight: Ilene Sperling

Lesley University Expressive Therapy Alumni Spotlight:
Ilene Sperling

Those of you who have been following my blog know that I have been trying in the last few months to highlight our alumni.  Unfortunately, we recently lost one of our most promising alum.  Ilene Sperling was a 2007 graduate of our Art Therapy Program, and was a visionary clinician, co-founder of the North Carolina Art Therapy Institute.

Ilene worked with newly emigrated refugees from Burma in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro schools and also with students with special needs. She worked with adults looking for additional support, new perspectives and creative ways to manage stress, anxiety and depression.  In addition, Ilene offered clinical supervision in art therapy and mentored other expressive arts therapists.

In honor of Ilene, I wanted to spotlight her Institute and to encourage you to contribute to their cause. Ilene will be missed by many and we are proud to call her one of our own.
