Alumni Spotlight: Ilene Sperling

Lesley University Expressive Therapy Alumni Spotlight: Ilene Sperling Those of you who have been following my blog know that I have been trying in the last few months to highlight our alumni.  Unfortunately, we recently lost one of our most promising alum.  Ilene Sperling was a 2007 graduate of our Art Therapy Program , and was a visionary clinician, co-founder of the North Carolina Art Therapy Institute . Ilene worked with newly emigrated refugees from Burma in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro schools and also with students with special needs. She worked with adults looking for additional support, new perspectives and creative ways to manage stress, anxiety and depression.   In addition, Ilene offered clinical supervision in art therapy and mentored other expressive arts therapists.    In honor of Ilene, I wanted to spotlight her Institute and to encourage you to contribute to their cause . Ilene will be missed by many and we are proud to call her one of our own.

Expressive Arts Therapy Alumni Spotlight: Nadia Womack Our Alumni often relocate all over the world after graduation.  We always hope that they will stay in touch and come back to campus.  Recently, Nadia Womack, Expressive Arts Therapy specialization grad, now residing in Baltimore, MD, came back to Lesley University to present a workshop on the use of sandtray in therapy, at the conference:   "Being Culturally Responsive in Urban Settings: A Conference for Mental Health Providers, Educators, and ALL Working with Culturally Diverse Families " The conference was sponsored through a partnership of the Boston Children’s Hosptial Neighborhood Partnerships Program , the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute , and VISIONS, Inc., sponsored by the Josephine & Louise Crane Foundation and hosted by the Episcopal Divinity School and brought together folks from around the region particularly interested in culturally responsive work. We were so proud of Nadia, and so
