Expressive Arts Therapy

Hi everyone, First off, let me say thank you again for all you do to help us make our specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy a wonderful opportunity for learning. For those of you who have taught during the past year - thank you! For those of you who have supervised during the past year - thank you! and for those of you who have been students in the program during the past year - thank you! We have the privilege of bringing ourselves, our creativity, and our love for the arts into relationship with others and there is so much need in the world for the work of relationship and Poiesis ! As many of you know I will be on sabbatical during the 2014-2015 academic year doing research on professional identity for Expressive Arts Therapists (today was my last day, and I return July 1, 2015). Come to the 2014 Expressive Therapies Poster Session of Thesis Research! Friday, May 2, 1:30-2:30 Sherrill Library , Rooms 150-151 You will have the opportunity to talk to Thesis Students and Graduating MA Expressive Therapy students about research they've completed in expressive therapies at this informal gathering.  Students have done qualitative and quantitative research that adds depth and breadth to our growing field.  They are eager to share their results with you! Lesley University Expressive Therapy Alumni Spotlight: Ilene Sperling Those of you who have been following my blog know that I have been trying in the last few months to highlight our alumni.  Unfortunately, we recently lost one of our most promising alum.  Ilene Sperling was a 2007 graduate of our Art Therapy Program , and was a visionary clinician, co-founder of the North Carolina Art Therapy Institute . Ilene worked with newly emigrated refugees from Burma in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro schools and also with students with special needs. She worked with adults looking for additional support, new perspectives and creative ways to manage stress, anxiety and depression.   In addition, Ilene offered clinical supervision in art therapy and mentored other expressive arts therapists.    In honor of Ilene, I wanted to spotlight her Institute and to encourage you to contribute to their cause .
